Fitness

BestLife Basics – Marla Murray is a women’s strength training and nutrition coach. She is offering meaningful, challenging and fun workouts online – visit her Facebook page for details.

British Heart Foundation – Being stuck in the house makes it all the more important to look after your blood pressure and cardiovascular health. This article on the BHF website recommends some good indoor exercises based on yoga moves and circuits.

FastTrack Fit Camp – Heidi Strickland-Clark has taken her outdoor fitness sessions online and is delivering them at various times during the week through Zoom. Learn more by keeping up to date with the Facebook page.

Generation Games – Age UK Oxfordshire’s physical activity service, which usually runs close to 80 exercise classes for older people across the county, has started offering easy-to-follow videos on its website.

Nutritious Works – The instructors are now offering a range of their classes online, whether live via Zoom, or videos to enjoy anytime from their Facebook page. There are fun sessions to do with the kids in the garden, fitness workouts, dance based classes, and movement for older people.

Sport England – The national sport body has collated a host of useful links to online fitness training under the hashtag #stayinworkout. There is something to suit all ages and abilities, from The Body Coach to Move it or Lose It.

Foot health

The Vale Clinic – Ronke Tinker is a podiatrist who usually holds clinics in Twyford, Woodley and Earley. During the coronavirus closures treatments are limited to home visits in emergency situations for at-risk patients experiencing a foot wound, infection or pain. Anyone else can benefit from her virtual podiatry consultations via video calls using the secure Telehealth service. Patients can discuss and, if necessary, show or demonstrate any foot health problems with Ronke. This enables her to make an assessment and give easy-to-follow practical advice to help relieve symptoms and manage many conditions, such as ingrowing toenails, hard skin and corns, heel pain, verrucae and warts. In the first instance send an email with a short description of the issue and Ronke will advise if you are suitable for a video call.

Nutrition

Fearless in the Kitchen – Jen Roach is passionate about cooking and eating well. She runs a cooking school at her home in rural Warfield. For inspiration and ideas for simple, healthy recipes for all the family, check out her Facebook page for video demonstrations being posted each Friday.

Physical therapy

Fit and Able Physiotherapy – Physiotherapy consultations can take place by video conference over Skype or Zoom or by telephone. After assessment, advice can be given along with condition management plans including exercise therapy. To book an appointment send an email or call them. VTherapy – Vanda Venter is a physical therapist specialising in sports massage, injury rehabilitation, movement dysfunction and chronic pain relief. She takes care to listen, observe, and gather information in order to assess the whole person and adapt her treatment, advice and rehabilitation protocols for maximum benefit to the patient. Singing

Sing Your Pain Away – Virtual group singing sessions for wellbeing and fun. Belt out songs from the shows, ABBA, numbers from the 50s and 60s, all from the comfort of your sofa. Sociable, chatty sessions with lots of laughter and a weekly theme. No singing ability required!

Stress and anxiety

FixMe Ltd – Diksha Chakravarti is an experienced and skilled practitioner specialising in pain and stress relief using a combination approach to heal the mind, body and spirit. She is offering free Mindfulness sessions Monday to Friday via Facebook Live. Check the times on her Facebook page.

Liz Balmford Coaching – Liz is a coach helping people reach their business and life goals. She is also an EFT* practitioner helping clients overcome stress and anxiety, phobias and other blockages holding them back from performing to the best of their potential. She is posting videos on her Facebook page showing how to use ‘tapping’ to reduce anxiety, increase calm and achieve clarity.

Yoga

Health and Hart – Joanne Hart is a nutritional therapist and yoga teacher. Follow her Facebook page for yoga classes and food & nutrition tips. She runs a regular yoga class at 8pm on Wednesdays, now offered via Zoom, that includes breathing to strengthen the lungs and immune system. To request to join, message her or send an email. Swan Yoga – Sarah Swan is a yoga teacher also qualified in yoga therapy. She is offering free, daily 15 minute Connect & Calm sessions at 1.30pm, Monday to Friday, via her Facebook page, for some gentle breathing, stretching and relaxation. Exercises are done on a chair, so suitable for everyone. Staying grounded and connecting with our inner calm makes it easier to cope with whatever comes our way. Sarah is also running her Wednesday evening yoga class from 7pm to 8.10 pm via Zoom. Please email her to book.
