Phoenix & Ranelagh Hockey Club was formed in 1998 following the merger of two local clubs: Phoenix, established by players from the old Huntley and Palmers team in 1984, was based at the Prudential Ibis sports ground, and offered ladies, mens, and mixed hockey. Ranelagh, based just a few minutes away at Rivermead Leisure Centre, was established in 1928, and ran a thriving junior (girls and boys) section.
The club is fortunate now to have the use of the facilities at Reading University sports park at Whiteknights Campus for its matches, showers, teas and committee meetings.
Phoenix & Ranelagh is affiliated to England Hockey and achieved ‘Clubs First’ accreditation at the end of 2010. This is a nationally recognised award from England Hockey for providing a safe, effective and child friendly hockey environment.
