Wokingham Soup
Inspired by the original Detroit SOUP events, social care provider Optalis are hosting soup evenings to help raise funds for local community projects.
Go along, enjoy some delicious home made soup, listen to three local good causes who will describe in brief what they do for their local community, and vote for your favourite project. The winner receives the money raised on the night, with Optalis matching the funds by up to £250.
The three projects pitching this time around are as follows:
- The Link Visiting Scheme, who work to reduce loneliness and social isolation in older people in the Wokingham Borough, through the provision of befriending, activities and events.
- Grief and a Cuppa, who are a group of bereaved people supporting others in the Wokingham community by enabling them to talk about grief and bereavement alongside making new friends.
- Omada CIC, who use drama therapy to provide mental health and wellbeing support to individuals, groups and organisations.
Previous winners at Wokingham Soup:
July 2019 - £280 for Kaleidoscopic UK, a small charity supporting those at the receiving end of domestic abuse. The money was going towards training staff in the 'Freedom' programme and also local support groups, which are all survivor-led.
October 2019 - £250 for School Days, operating under the umbrella of First Days Children's Charity in Hurst to provide families in need in Wokingham with school uniforms and other equipment.
