Wokingham Choral Society’s Summer Concert will be held on Saturday 21 June at All
Saints Church, Wokingham. It is titled 'And All the People Rejoiced' and will include a programme of wonderful uplifting choral pieces, some of which have been associated with coronations.
- Mozart’s small Mass in C Minor was named the Coronation Mass after becoming the preferred music for royal and imperial coronations as well as services of thanksgiving.
- Zadok the Priest was composed by Handel for the coronation of George II and has been sung prior to the anointing of the sovereign at the coronation of every British Monarch since its composition.
- Parry’s wonderful anthem 'I was Glad' was composed for the coronation of Edward VIII and was sung most recently at the coronation of Charles III.
- Works by Brahms and Haydn complete this exciting concert.
The choir will be conducted by George de Voil and accompanied on the organ and piano by Ben Giddens.
