The 2020 coronavirus lockdown occurred on the weekend the TRHA Spring Show was due to take place, which obviously had to be abandoned. The Summer show followed in 'virtual' format, and the autumn show will build on the success of that first attempt.

Entries are not restricted to TRHA members; all residents of the area in and around Twyford and Ruscombe are invited to take part for free - it's just for fun and online glory! To enter you'll need to email a photograph of your produce or creation any time up to the deadline of 11am on Saturday 12 September.

There are 5 adult sections and 5 children's sections, with one class in each. The descriptions are intended to be open to interpretation: you could use flowers, fruit, vegetables, salad, herbs, flower arrangement, paintings, craft or handicrafts, cake or other baked goods, other produce eg jams, chutneys...

Visit the Shows section on the website for full details and instructions, and get thinking! For instance, the section entitled 'The Spice of Life'   could be a plant with an invigorating scent, chillies you have grown, a jar of pickle or chutney, a cake with a sweet spicy flavour, or a photo or still life painting to illustrate what makes your life tick... you get the picture.

Twyford & Ruscombe Horticultural Association normally runs three traditional shows a year in spring, summer and autumn, all held at Loddon Hall in Twyford. As well as the vegetable and flower growing categories they usually include domestic, art and sometimes photography sections enabling members of all ages and levels of experience to submit entries. After the judges have completed their rounds and allocated the awards, the shows open for public viewing in the afternoon.

This year the judging is by public vote, open between 16 and 25 September, with the results published on the website on Saturday 26 September.

If non members would like to learn more about the Twyford & Ruscombe Horticultural Association, visit www.trha.org.uk or head down one Sunday morning to the Trading Store by the Loddon Road allotments in Twyford, where they sell a range of garden supplies between 10am and 11am and are always happy to greet new people.
