Ted Hallett is self-taught and has painted throughout his teenage and adult life.

A trained mechanical design engineer, he has successfully combined a career in engineering and art, painting full time since 2002. He says that both provide the creative challenge of the blank sheet of paper or canvas.

He works in a variety of mediums, including oil, acrylic, watercolour and gouache. Most of his work is figurative, sometimes impressionistic and occasionally abstracted.

Prior to 1990, he painted mainly in Cornwall and particularly around the streets of St Ives, with which he has had a long association. The Cornish coastal scene is still a feature of his work, together with local scenes along the Thames. In the last 10 years however, he has branched out into more expressive work, which he produces from his experience and imagination in his garden studio.Ted has held many solo exhibitions in Henley, Reading and London. He is a regular exhibitor with the Henley Guild and other local venues.
