Creative Journeys Textile Art Exhibition

Creative Journeys is the name of a group of textile artists from Berks, Hants and Oxon, many of whom started with little or no experience. The group studies at InStitches in Finchampstead.

"Creative Journeys is the culmination of several years working to develop our creativity using textiles, stitching and mixed media. We are each on a path of discovery, from learning design principles and use of colour to looking at everyday things from new perspectives.

'Inspired by a shared love of colour, textiles and stitching, creating an original design was a challenge at first. We may have felt that we could not draw or be artistic in early sessions, only to find stunning results as we each progressed.

'Hazel and Terry of InStitches foster a supportive environment in the studio, introducing different approaches to design and giving us the freedom to “play” and “experiment”.  Our Creative Journeys are based on understanding colour, pattern and mark making and how to make a composition stand out. Using paint, inks, and fabric dyes we have learnt multiple techniques progressing to develop our own themes and styles.

'Creative Journeys artists find inspiration from many sources. Nature, trees, wildlife and walks are common themes. Places also encourage creativity, whether it is home, favourite haunts or memories from childhood days. Often ideas spring from more unusual sources such as found artifacts or notes from a family history.

At this exhibition you will see a wide variety of work based on these themes. From aprons to books, the textiles or papers used are hand-dyed or printed, embellished with paint and hand stitching.'
