Ollie Young Foundation is a registered charity, run entirely by volunteers, which funds paediatric brain tumour research and support.
The charity was set up in Ollie’s memory after he lost his fight against an incurable brain tumour the day before his sixth birthday – just 12 weeks after first displaying symptoms.
Brain tumours kill more children than leukaemia or any other cancer, kill more women under 35 than breast or any other cancer, kill more men under 45 than prostate or any other cancer, and are the main cancer killer of people under 40.
Moreover, the five-year survival rate for brain cancer patients is just 14%, whilst up to 40% of all cancers spread to the brain. Yet brain tumour research receives only 0.7% of UK national cancer research spending.
When Ollie was diagnosed, there was no treatment available. No cure. No answers for his family. No hope.
To help change the fortunes of others diagnosed with brain tumours, the Ollie Young Foundation assists in funding the Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) in London, previously also funding the Institute of Biomedical and Biomolecular Sciences at Portsmouth University.
