R Young Art Gallery in Wokingham is passionate about creating meaningful artistic experiences that bring communities together. Over the years the gallery has led a number of town-wide creative initiatives. They are now organising their most ambitious project to date.
On 14 June 2026, they will host Wokingham En Plein Air - a large-scale live painting event that will transform the town into an open-air studio for one vibrant summer day.
The event will feature:
- Approximately 122 artists painting live across 49 carefully curated locations throughout the town
- 6.5 hours of live painting, followed by a public exhibition, judging and awards ceremony in Market Place
- All artworks available for sale, encouraging direct engagement between artists and the public
This event is designed as not only a celebration of plein air painting but also a cultural highlight for the town - encouraging footfall, supporting independent businesses, and building visibility for participating artists through coordinated media and social promotion in the months leading up to the day.

There is also an Early Bird discount of 10% for artists booking before 31 March 2026 (discount code: earlybird).
The prize pot is an incredible £2,400, and all participating artists will receive an artist goodie bag with a range of sample art materials from Royal Talens and Daler Rowney.
