Local elections

Local elections

From Wokingham Borough Council:

We’re encouraging residents to be prepared for the forthcoming elections in May 2024, which will see all 54 seats contested.

This year’s local elections take place on Thursday 2 May and there is also a Police and Crime Commissioner election for Thames Valley.

Although the date for the next general election has not yet been confirmed, it must be held by 28 January 2025, although it could be called sooner.

What you need to do

  • Check you are registered to vote ahead of the deadline on Tuesday 16 April
  • If you’re planning on voting at a polling station, check you have valid photo ID
  • Check if you are voting in a different ward from when you last cast your vote following a major change to ward boundaries
  • In addition to the new ward boundary arrangements, there are also new parliamentary boundaries to elect Members of Parliament. There are now two constituencies in the borough – the existing Wokingham constituency and the new Earley and Woodley constituency
  • If you plan to vote by post or proxy, check the details on changes to postal and proxy voting
  • Check where your polling station is before you go to vote, as it may have changed
  • Changes for overseas voters in Parliamentary Elections, new for the next General Election

More information about the changes to upcoming elections and voting process is available on the WBC website.
